Latest Update on Music Licensing in New Zealand

Music licensing is looking likely to be a MAJOR issue in New Zealand.  In Australia the rates proposed to use music (of any form, including the radio. CDs, TV etc) in gyms are over $100,000 for a moderate sized club!  FitnessNZ has been working on this on many levels, and this has been communicated to members.  For a summary update see this info sheet.

Our advice to the public:
Fitness NZ has two pieces of important advice to anyone thinking of joining a health club:

-Check that the club is registered with The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS) by clicking on www.reps.org.nz or by calling 0800 554499.

-Take advantage of any flexible payment options that most clubs are able to offer, rather than paying up front. This always gives protection to the public in the unlikely event of club closure.

Important Information:Fitness NZ can only guarantee to protect consumers joining clubs that are members of Fitness NZ. Ensure you remember this when choosing a club to join. Please note all registered facilities of REPS are members of Fitness NZ.
